From sunny, grassy spots on the hills and mountains of Japan, this is just like a yellow-flowered version of the wellknown Verbena bonariensis. With erect stems and coarsely toothed leaves that, as a rather special bonus, turn an outstanding orangey-red in autumn, it bears lots of many-flowered umbels of bright golden-yellow flowers. Good for cutting and attractive for insects.
