Hardy garden-orchid for a slightly damp, but not too wet place in the (semi) shade. American species, white with a pink shoe.
Height: 30 cm.
Flowers: feb-may
Type: TP
Hardy in: zones 11 (15 Celsius)
Sowing instructions: Not much is known about sowing this species. Best sown on moist sphagnum, which is then put in a plastic bag and placed in a light and warm but not sunny spot. It seems to help if the bag is placed in a dark cupboard every now and then. Germination is erratic and may take up to a year! This is not for the faint hearted!
Planting instructions: require intermediate to warm conditions. Being terrestrial orchids they do not like direct sunshine but require semi-shade. Since they do not have storage organs, they must not be subjected to a resting period. They should be watered every 3-5 days. After flowering watering should be restricted for a period of 4 weeks. During spring and summer, sufficient humidity and sufficient air circulation is necessary. The compost should consist of osmunda fiber, sphagnum moss and a small amount of bark with sand and leaf mold added
