Hardy shruw, with grey-brown coloured branches covered with thin, downward-pointing spikes. The bright green leaves (12 to 15 cm long) are divided into three to five leaflets. It produces three types of flowers which are branched together in umbrella-shaped clusters. The flowers vary in colour: light violet or yellow. The fruits are oval and berry-like. The rhizome lies shallow in the ground and is 1.5 cm in diameter. The roots are long, woody and pliable. Also known as Ginseng, this is a medicinal plant that supports recovery, reduces fatigue and adds to a normal blood pressure.
