Kuipplant. Olijfbomen groeien traag. Ze kunnen honderden jaren oud worden. Door zijn verwrongen vorm is het een interessante plant.

Zaai-instructies: Kiemt in 1-10 maanden bij 18-21 Celsius.

Plant-instructies: Aan de bodem worden niet te veel eisen gesteld, maar ze zijn wel zeer gevoelig voor te natte grond. Aan de andere kant mag de bodem echter ook nooit helemaal uitdrogen. In de zomer moet je dus geregeld water geven, maar laat de plant enkele dagen tijd tussen twee gietbeurten. Om de twee weken bijmesten wordt ook aangeraden

Sowing instructions: Sow into pots or trays of moist seed sowing mix and cover with a 3mm layer of sowing mix or vermiculite. Place in a propagator or warm place, and keep at a temperature of around 18-21C. After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the sowing mix moist but not waterlogged; germination will usually take 1-10 months.

Planting instructions: The olive requires a long, hot growing season to properly ripen the fruit, no late spring frosts to kill the blossoms and sufficient winter chill to insure fruit set. The trees survive and fruit well even with considerable neglect. Olives can also be grown in a large container, and has even appeared in shows as a bonsai. Plant olive trees in full sun and away from sidewalks to avoid stains from fallen ripe fruit. Olives will grow well on almost any well-drained soil
