Niet alleen als (genees)kruid, maar ook als groente gebruikt. Het jonge blad smaakt lekker pittig. Maar het gebruik van de zaden voor de mosterdproductie is uiteraard het meest bekend. De gele bloemen worden graag door bijen bezocht.
