This is a distinct species, a bold and stately plant from North America, with tall, downy, erect, leafy stems, bearing in late summer and autumn dense terminal racemes of light lilac flowers. Makes an excellent cut flower and attracts pollinating insects.

Sowing instructions: Sow mid spring-mid summer in a good seed compost just covering the seed with compost. Seal inside a polythene bag and place in the dark until the first seedlings start to show. Keep compost moist but not saturated. Germination takes around 30 days at 20-25C.

Planting instructions: full sun and well drained soil.
